Last updated: 5 October 2026
These Terms & Conditions apply to workshops, training courses, events and related services offered under the trade name TækkeSelv, operated by Bleekrode Erfgoed, CVR 43931334.

TækkeSelv is a trade name and educational initiative of Bleekrode Erfgoed, not a separate legal entity.
Throughout these terms, “TækkeSelv”, “Bleekrode Erfgoed”, “we”, “us”, “our” and “the organiser” refer to Bleekrode Erfgoed, CVR 43931334.
“Participant”, “you” and “your” refer to the person attending the workshop. Where another person or organisation makes the booking, they must ensure that the participant receives these terms and the relevant workshop information.
2. Scope and Acceptance
These terms apply to workshop bookings, participation, training materials and additional services expressly included in the booking.
Participants have an opportunity to read these terms before making a binding booking. By completing the booking and paying the required deposit, the participant accepts these terms.
Mandatory legal rights take precedence over any conflicting provision.
3. Workshop Philosophy
TækkeSelv aims to preserve and promote traditional Danish thatching by making practical knowledge accessible to homeowners, DIY enthusiasts and others interested in traditional craftsmanship.
Workshops combine theoretical instruction with supervised practical experience on dedicated practice roofs and, where expressly included and considered appropriate, a real thatched roof.
The workshops teach general principles and practical techniques. They do not constitute a complete professional training programme or certify participants as professional thatchers.
4. Registration and Booking Confirmation
An expression of interest, course enquiry or preliminary registration does not by itself constitute a binding booking.
When a workshop is available for booking, TækkeSelv will provide the date, course information and payment instructions.
A 50% deposit is required upon booking. Your place is secured and your booking becomes binding once TækkeSelv has received the deposit and confirmed your place in writing.
For bookings made within 14 days of the workshop starting date, the full workshop fee is required instead of a deposit.
Unless expressly agreed otherwise, places are allocated in the order in which the required booking payments are received.
The participant must check the booking confirmation and promptly report any incorrect information.
5. Workshop Dates and Location
The workshop date, location, duration and teaching language are stated in the course information or booking confirmation.
For workshops where dates have not yet been set, TækkeSelv may take participants’ availability into account when planning.
A preliminary registration for an undated workshop does not oblige the participant to accept a subsequently proposed date.
Changes to a confirmed date are handled under Section 10.
6. Minimum Number of Participants
Unless expressly stated otherwise in the course information, workshops require a minimum of six participants.
Bookings may be accepted and deposits collected before the minimum number has been reached.
If the minimum number is not reached, TækkeSelv may combine groups, propose another date or cancel the workshop.
If cancellation or postponement is necessary because of insufficient participants, TækkeSelv will notify booked participants no later than 21 days before the workshop starts.
Cancellation or postponement may still be necessary after that deadline for other reasons, including instructor illness or unsafe conditions, as described in Section 10.
7. Workshop Fees
Prices include Danish VAT unless expressly stated otherwise.
The course information or booking confirmation specifies what is included, such as instruction, materials, use of tools, lunch and refreshments.
Additional services and personal expenses are included only where expressly stated.
The price agreed for a confirmed booking will not be increased without the participant’s agreement. If TækkeSelv cannot provide the workshop at the agreed price, the participant may decline a proposed change and receive a full refund.
8. Payment
A 50% deposit is required upon booking.
The deposit forms part of the total workshop fee and enables TækkeSelv to reserve the place, prepare the workshop and arrange materials.
The remaining 50% must be received no later than 14 days before the workshop starts.
For bookings made within 14 days of the starting date, the full workshop fee is payable upon booking and must be received before participation.
Payment of the deposit confirms a booking for the full workshop fee, subject to the cancellation provisions and applicable statutory rights.
If payment is overdue, TækkeSelv will contact the participant and provide a reasonable opportunity to pay before cancelling the booking or refusing participation. Any resulting payment claim remains subject to Section 9 and applicable law.
9. Cancellation by Participants
Cancellation should be communicated in writing to hej@taekkeselv.dk, identifying the participant and workshop.
More than 28 days before the workshop
The participant may cancel without a cancellation charge and receive a refund of the deposit and any other workshop payments made.
28 days or less before the workshop, or failure to attend
TækkeSelv may retain payments received and claim any outstanding amount, up to the full agreed workshop fee, to the extent that this represents its documented loss recoverable under applicable law.
The amount claimed will take account of:
costs saved because the participant does not attend;
the value of materials or services that can reasonably be reused, cancelled or otherwise recovered;
income received from a replacement booking for the cancelled place;
reasonable, documented additional costs directly resulting from the cancellation and efforts to refill the place.
TækkeSelv will make reasonable efforts to limit its loss, including attempting to fill the place where practicable.
If the place is filled at the same price and no loss remains other than reasonable, documented additional costs, payments will be refunded after deducting those costs.
The deposit is credited against the cancellation amount and is not charged in addition to it. The total cancellation amount will not exceed the agreed workshop fee.
On request, TækkeSelv will explain how the cancellation amount was calculated.
Replacement participants and later dates
A participant may propose a replacement participant. TækkeSelv will not unreasonably refuse a suitable replacement who accepts these terms and meets the participation requirements.
Where practicable, TækkeSelv will also try to offer the cancelling participant a place on a later workshop. Such an arrangement must be agreed in writing and is subject to availability.
These provisions do not limit applicable statutory withdrawal or other mandatory consumer rights.
10. Cancellation or Postponement by TækkeSelv
TækkeSelv may cancel or postpone a workshop because of insufficient participants, instructor illness, severe weather, unsafe conditions, unavailable facilities or other circumstances preventing its safe or proper delivery.
Cancellation or postponement because of insufficient participants will be communicated no later than 21 days before the workshop starts. Other circumstances may require cancellation or postponement closer to the starting date.
Our preferred arrangement is to carry forward the deposit and any other workshop payments to a replacement workshop, with priority booking before remaining places are offered to new participants.
TækkeSelv will contact participants to propose this arrangement. Participants may accept the transfer or choose a full refund of the workshop payments made to TækkeSelv.
A participant is not obliged to accept a replacement date. A lack of response does not constitute acceptance.
If a participant agrees to keep payments available for a future workshop but no suitable replacement is offered within 12 months of the original date, the unused payments will be refunded in full.
Until a specific replacement date has been accepted, the participant may also request a full refund earlier.
Refunds will be made without undue delay and within a reasonable time, subject to any applicable statutory deadline.
If a workshop is interrupted after it has started, TækkeSelv will offer an appropriate replacement arrangement or refund for the part not delivered, taking account of applicable legal rights.
11. Force Majeure
Force majeure means exceptional circumstances beyond TækkeSelv’s reasonable control that cannot reasonably be prevented or overcome and that prevent delivery of the workshop.
Examples may include war, natural disaster, exceptional severe weather, pandemic-related restrictions or mandatory government measures, where these actually prevent the workshop from taking place.
An event does not constitute force majeure merely because it is described as such.
Where cancellation or postponement results from force majeure, TækkeSelv is not liable for additional losses caused by that event, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Force majeure does not in itself remove the participant’s right to a refund. The arrangements in Section 10 remain applicable, subject to mandatory law.
12. Workshop Content and Educational Purpose
The programme may be adjusted to reflect weather, materials, participant experience, roof conditions and safety requirements.
Reasonable changes may be made where the workshop’s essential learning objectives and overall value are maintained. A substantial reduction or change will be handled in accordance with applicable consumer rights.
Completion does not constitute professional certification, qualification or authorisation to undertake roofing work.
Participation does not establish that a participant is competent to undertake every type of thatching, repair or construction task independently.
13. Roof Assessment and Professional Advice
TækkeSelv teaches general principles and practical techniques. It does not inspect or assess the participant’s own roof and does not provide structural, engineering, architectural or project-specific construction advice as part of the workshop.
General discussions, photographs shown during a workshop and teaching examples do not constitute an assessment or approval of a particular roof.
Before constructing a new thatched roof or applying an overthatch to an existing roof, the participant must obtain advice from a qualified thatching professional and, where appropriate, a structural engineer about the condition, structural suitability and proposed construction of the specific roof.
Before carrying out repairs, ridge work or other maintenance, the participant remains responsible for assessing whether the work is suitable for independent execution.
If the roof’s condition or construction is uncertain, or if the work may affect its structural integrity or weather resistance, the participant must first consult an appropriately qualified professional.
Participation does not imply that any particular roof is suitable for a technique demonstrated during the workshop.
14. Responsibilities for Work After the Workshop
After the workshop, participants remain responsible for work they plan or carry out on their own property or another person’s property.
This includes responsibility for:
obtaining necessary professional assessments and advice;
planning the work and selecting suitable techniques;
choosing appropriate materials;
workmanship and quality control;
safe access, equipment and working methods;
compliance with applicable rules;
obtaining the property owner’s permission;
checking insurance requirements;
inspection and ongoing maintenance.
TækkeSelv does not supervise, approve or guarantee work undertaken independently after the workshop.
15. Building, Planning and Heritage Requirements
Before starting work, participants must determine whether permission, notification or approval is required under applicable building, planning, fire safety or heritage rules.
If a property is listed, protected, designated as worthy of preservation or located within a conservation area, the participant must check the applicable requirements and obtain necessary approval before starting work.
The workshop does not replace advice or approval from the relevant authority or a qualified professional.
16. Health and Safety During the Workshop
Practical thatching involves risks associated with manual handling, sharp tools, power tools, natural materials, ladders, scaffolding and, where included, work at height.
Participants must:
attend the required safety briefing before practical activities;
follow the instructor’s safety instructions and site rules;
use tools and equipment only after receiving the relevant instruction and permission;
use required personal protective equipment correctly;
wear suitable work clothing and sturdy, closed footwear, including safety footwear where required;
use only approved access routes, platforms and working areas;
leave guards, barriers and other safety arrangements in place;
immediately report damaged equipment, unsafe situations, injuries and near misses;
stop work and ask the instructor if unsure how to proceed;
behave responsibly towards other participants, instructors and property owners.
Participants must not operate tools or take part in practical activities while impaired by alcohol, drugs or any substance or condition affecting safe participation.
Access to a real roof or an activity at height requires the instructor’s express permission and the specified safety arrangements.
TækkeSelv remains responsible for its own legal duties concerning instruction, supervision, equipment and workshop organisation.
17. Physical Ability and Participation Restrictions
Participants must consider whether they can safely undertake the activities described for the workshop.
Participants should inform TækkeSelv beforehand of relevant limitations or necessary adjustments. Detailed medical information need not be provided unless necessary for arranging safe participation.
Participants must stop an activity and notify the instructor if they feel unwell or cannot continue safely.
TækkeSelv may restrict or stop an activity where participation presents a safety risk. Where practicable, an alternative learning activity will be offered.
Serious or repeated failure to follow safety instructions may result in removal from a practical activity or the workshop.
Any financial consequences will be assessed reasonably, taking account of the circumstances, services provided and applicable legal rights.
18. Insurance
Bleekrode Erfgoed, operating under the trade name TækkeSelv, maintains business insurance with If Skadeforsikring, including business liability and product liability insurance.
These policies cover the company’s insured legal liability, subject to the applicable policy terms, insured activities, exclusions, limits and deductibles.
The existence of these policies does not mean that every accident, injury or instance of damage is covered, or that participants are individually insured under TækkeSelv’s policies.
Participants are responsible for checking and arranging appropriate insurance for their own participation, including personal accident insurance and liability insurance relevant to the practical activities they undertake.
Participants should check with their insurer whether their cover applies to practical thatching activities, borrowed tools and equipment and, where relevant, work at height or work on another person’s property.
Before undertaking work after the workshop, participants must check that appropriate insurance is in place and whether their insurer must be notified or give prior approval.
Incidents that may result in an insurance claim must be reported to TækkeSelv promptly. Cover and liability are assessed according to the facts, applicable policy terms and law.
19. Liability and Damage Caused by Participants
TækkeSelv’s liability for injury, property damage or other loss is determined under applicable law.
Participation does not waive a participant’s legal rights or release TækkeSelv from liability for its own acts or omissions where such liability applies.
TækkeSelv is not responsible for independently undertaken roofing work solely because the person carrying it out attended a workshop. Responsibilities for such work are described in Sections 13–15.
Participants may be held liable, in accordance with applicable law, for damage they cause to tools, equipment, practice roofs, buildings, other property or persons.
This may include damage resulting from negligent or intentional conduct, misuse of equipment or failure to follow safety instructions and site rules.
A participant is not automatically liable merely because an accident occurs. The cause, the participant’s conduct, TækkeSelv’s instruction and supervision and other relevant circumstances will be considered.
Claims must reflect the legally recoverable loss and take account of applicable insurance payments and other recoveries. TækkeSelv’s insurance deductible is not automatically payable by the participant.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
20. Accommodation and Optional Services
Accommodation, camping or other optional services are included only where expressly offered and confirmed separately.
Their price, facilities, relevant safety rules and cancellation arrangements will be communicated before booking.
Participants must follow the applicable site rules and bring any personal equipment specified.
TækkeSelv may suspend an optional activity where necessary for safety. Any resulting refund or replacement arrangement will be assessed under applicable law.
21. Photography and Media
TækkeSelv may ask participants for permission to use identifiable photographs, videos or testimonials for its website, social media, newsletters or other promotional materials.
Consent for promotional use will be requested separately from acceptance of these terms.
Participants may decline without affecting their ability to attend. Consent may be withdrawn for future use by contacting hej@taekkeselv.dk.
Participants must respect others’ privacy and obtain permission before publishing identifiable images or recordings of fellow participants.
22. Intellectual Property
Copyright and other applicable intellectual property rights in TækkeSelv’s original manuals, presentations, illustrations, photographs and teaching materials remain with Bleekrode Erfgoed or the relevant rights holder.
Participants may use the knowledge and practical skills gained for their own personal or professional activities.
Unless permission is given or the use is otherwise permitted by law, participants may not reproduce, distribute, sell or publish TækkeSelv’s teaching materials or use them to deliver other courses.
This provision does not claim exclusive rights over traditional thatching techniques, general knowledge or independently developed teaching materials.
23. Privacy
Personal information is processed in accordance with applicable data protection law and the TækkeSelv Privacy Policy.
Booking information may be used to administer registrations, payments, workshop communication and relevant safety arrangements.
Acceptance of these terms does not constitute consent to receive marketing messages or appear in promotional photographs or videos.
24. Statutory Withdrawal Rights
The cancellation arrangements in Section 9 do not replace any statutory right of withdrawal that applies.
Under Danish consumer law, qualifying leisure activities booked for a specific date or period are generally exempt from the statutory 14-day withdrawal right.
Where that exemption does not apply and a consumer books through a qualifying distance-selling arrangement, applicable statutory withdrawal rights remain available.
TækkeSelv will provide the relevant withdrawal information before a binding booking where required.
A participant wishing to exercise an applicable withdrawal right may notify TækkeSelv by an unequivocal statement, including by email to hej@taekkeselv.dk.
25. Complaints, Governing Law and Disputes
Questions or complaints should first be sent to hej@taekkeselv.dk, with the booking details and a description of the issue.
These terms are governed by Danish law, subject to applicable mandatory consumer protections.
Participants retain access to competent consumer complaint bodies and courts where available under applicable law. Nothing in these terms restricts mandatory consumer rights concerning jurisdiction or dispute resolution.
