About us– Tækkeselv

About Tækkeselv
Tækkeselv was founded to make traditional thatching accessible to everyone through practical, hands-on workshops.

Our journey into thatching began with our own home. As a homeowner, I wanted to learn how to overthatch my own roof instead of relying entirely on others. What started as a personal project soon became a passion for traditional craftsmanship.

Today, alongside my other work, I now work as a professional thatcher. Through Tækkeselv, I want to share the knowledge and experience I have gained—not only the techniques that work well, but also the mistakes I made along the way. Learning from those experiences can help others avoid common pitfalls and build confidence much faster.

Our workshops are designed for homeowners, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone interested in traditional craftsmanship. You will learn by working on real thatched roofs, with plenty of personal guidance in small groups.

By learning how to build, repair, overthatch, and maintain a thatched roof, participants can reduce future roofing costs, extend the lifespan of their roof, and help preserve an important part of Danish building heritage.

Thatch is a natural, renewable building material that supports biodiversity and sustainable construction. By passing these skills on to others, we hope to help keep this unique craft alive for future generations
