2. General Educational Information
The technical information provided on this website and through our manuals, videos, downloadable materials and social media explains general principles and practical techniques of traditional thatching.
It does not constitute an individual roof assessment or structural, engineering, architectural, legal or project-specific construction advice.
Examples, photographs and demonstrations illustrate particular techniques or situations. They do not establish that the same approach is suitable for another roof.
3. Every Roof Is Different
The suitability of a technique depends on the specific roof, including its construction, age, materials, existing condition, environment, moisture exposure and applicable requirements.
TækkeSelv does not inspect, assess or approve your own roof through the provision of general educational information or participation in a workshop.
Showing us photographs or discussing your roof does not by itself constitute a professional assessment or approval of proposed work.
4. Professional Advice Before Starting Work
Before constructing a new thatched roof or applying an overthatch to an existing roof, you must obtain advice from a qualified thatching professional and, where appropriate, a structural engineer about the condition, structural suitability and proposed construction of the specific roof.
Before carrying out repairs, ridge work or other maintenance, you remain responsible for assessing whether the work is suitable for independent execution.
If the roof’s condition or construction is uncertain, or if the proposed work may affect structural integrity or weather resistance, you must first consult an appropriately qualified professional.
General information from TækkeSelv does not replace this advice.
5. Responsibility for Independent Work
When applying techniques independently, you remain responsible for planning, suitable materials, workmanship, safe working methods and ongoing maintenance.
Before starting, you must check:
whether appropriate insurance is in place and whether your insurer requires notification or prior approval;
whether the work requires permission, notification or approval under applicable building, planning, fire safety or heritage rules;
whether the property has listed, protected or preservation status, or lies within a conservation area;
whether you have the property owner’s permission when working on someone else’s property.
6. Accuracy and Applicability
We take reasonable care when preparing our educational information. However, it may not cover every circumstance, construction type or subsequent change in guidance or regulations.
Do not treat general educational content as a complete specification, construction plan or guarantee of suitability for your project.
If information is unclear or appears incorrect, please contact hej@taekkeselv.dk before relying on it.
7. Workshops and Legal Rights
Workshop participation provides practical learning experience. It does not constitute professional certification or confirmation that you can safely undertake every type of roofing work independently.
Bookings, payment, cancellation, workshop safety, insurance and participant responsibilities are governed by our Terms & Conditions.
This disclaimer does not override specific contractual commitments or exclude liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
